https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/495

The researcher previously described various age-related cardiovascular changes, including decreased heart rates, reduced oxygen extraction, stiffening of the arteries, vasoconstriction, elevated systolic blood pressure, thickening of the heart muscle, decreased diastolic filling rate, alterations in rhythmic rate, and prolongation of the action potential. Various prescription medications, non-prescription substances, and herbal supplements have the potential to impact blood pressure and complicate the management of hypertension in persons undergoing treatment. Approximately 70-80% of the global population depends on traditional herbal medicine as their main source of primary healthcare. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the prevalence of herbal medication utilization among elderly individuals with hypertension, as well as to identify the most frequently employed herbs in this population. The prevalence of hypertension in the older population in this study exceeded the national average, since they utilized herbal medicine at different intervals and durations. The prevalence of herbal medicine in this study was more than that observed in a study conducte
Desy ArmalinaBambang WitjahjoNeni SusilaningsihRatna Damma PurnawatiAkhmad IsmailFanti Saktini

https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/497

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is one of the nutritional problems that pose a threat to adolescents in Indonesia, especially adolescent girls. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the proportion of CED among adolescent girls in Indonesia was 36.3%. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the risk of CED in adolescent girls and develop an RF-AR mobile health application for early detection and effective intervention. This study used an observational design with cross-sectional data. The respondents were adolescents aged 15-19 years from three high schools in Pesawaran, with a total of 100 adolescents in Pesawaran. Bivariate analysis was conducted to evaluate the relationship between nutrient intake (energy, carbohydrate, fat) and nutritional status with the risk of CED in adolescent girls. The results of the analysis showed that energy, carbohydrate, and fat intake had a significant relationship with the risk of CED. Adolescents with deficient nutrient intake had a higher risk of developing CED. Underweight nutritional status was also found to be a significant factor that increases the risk of CED. The results of this study emphasize the importance of fulfilling adequate nutritional intake and monitoring nutritional status in the prevention of CED. The RF-AR mobile health application has the potential to be an effective tool for early detection and intervention in adolescent girls, helping them to effectively monitor their nutritional intake and nutritional status
Mohamad Rangga FirdausOssy Endah WulansariDian Isti Angraini

https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/501

Stunting is still a problem, including in Indonesia. The consequences of stunting include higher susceptibility to chronic diseases (such as diabetes and heart diseases), lower developmental milestones, and lower school performances. Irreversible brain damage might happen due to iodine and iron deficiencies. Therefore, understanding the determinants and impact of stunting is critical. This paper aims to describe the determinants and impact of stunting. The impact of stunting might affect the brain and mental development. Poor school performance results in low income and poverty. Children who live in urban areas are less likely to be stunted due to better health care system access and facilities, greater availability of food, electricity, housing, water, transportation, and sanitation. A higher economic and educational level plays important roles in decreasing the prevalence of stunting. Stunting children pose a higher mortality risk. Stunting is a part of the monitoring framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. Providing a nutritious and diverse diet would prevent stunting. Improving affordable local management of food systems is one of the steps in increasing the nutritional status of stunted children. In conclusion, the determinants of stunting are socioeconomic status and the impacts of stunting are various from chronic disease, lower educational status, brain damage, and a higher mortality risk.
Yuliana Yuliana

https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/490

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of global mortality, prompting the need for novel, effective, and affordable anticancer agents. Marine macroalgae, including Padina sp., are known to contain bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential. This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer potential of ethanolic extract of Padina sp. using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) and compare it with taurine as a control compound. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of several secondary metabolites including alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and steroids in the ethanolic extract. Toxicity assays using Artemia salina larvae revealed that both taurine and Padina sp. extract induced larval mortality in a dose-dependent manner. Regression analysis indicated LC50 values of 170.69 ppm for taurine and 168.52 ppm for the Padina sp. extract, categorizing both as having low toxicity levels. The observed larval mortality is likely associated with the bioactive compounds, particularly alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, which have been previously reported to exhibit cytotoxic and anticancer properties. These findings suggest that Padina sp. ethanolic extract has potential as a natural anticancer candidate and warrants further investigation using cancer cell lines and in vivo models.
Devi A KhasanaEndang L WidiastutiNuning NurcahyaniM Aqwam Nugraha

2025-12-192025-12-19212129Overview of the Distribution Pattern of Stunting Toddlers in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province
https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/496

Stunting is a chronic malnutrition condition accompanied by disease complications that are still a serious health problem in Indonesia. Based on the 2022 National Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia reached 21.6%, down from 24.4% in the previous year, but still far from the 2024 target of 14%. Pesawaran Regency in Lampung Province has the highest prevalence (25.1%), while Central Lampung Regency has the lowest prevalence (8.7%). Stunting is detrimental in the short and long term and starts from the nutritional status of the mother during pregnancy to the age of the child under 2 years old. Nutritional counseling for pregnant women and maternal and child health services is very important in preventing stunting. The distribution of stunting cases is not arbitrary and tends to form groups in certain areas. In Pesawaran Regency, stunting cases are spread across 11 sub-districts with different performance coverage results, influenced by the location of the region. Nearest Neighbor Analysis is used to understand this distribution pattern. The results of the analysis show a highly grouped distribution pattern with statistically significant values, indicating the specific factors that led to this grouping. Factors that contribute to stunting grouping include socio-economic, environmental, health and nutrition, educational, and cultural factors. These factors include limited access to resources, poor housing and sanitation conditions, lack of nutritional intake, limited access to health services, maternal knowledge of nutrition, and traditional practices or local beliefs. Understanding these factors is important for designing appropriate and effective interventions to reduce stunting rates in the region.
Sutarto SutartoRatna Dewi PuspitasariWinda Trijayanthi UtamaShallu Afdha Nadifa

https://icomesh.unila.ac.id/2025/index.php/web/article/view/514

Coffee has caffeine content that may be beneficial for health in the appropriate dosage use. Robusta coffee has a higher caffeine content compared to other types of coffee. Robusta coffee is the most widely cultivated type of coffee in Indonesia as it is more tolerant of certain pests and is suitable for the climate in Indonesia. Supporting the germplasm diversity management, identification of robusta coffee diversity is essential, both in terms of phenotypic and genotypic characters. This research has been conducted as a comprehensive part of phenotyping identification of robusta coffee populations in Gunung Betung, Bogorejo, Pesawaran, Lampung. This investigation has aimed to determine the diversity of robusta coffee phenotypes according to leaf width on plagiotropic branches. Samples were taken using purposive sampling method on 30 individual robusta coffee plants. Identification has been done based on leaf morphology, width of the first leaf on the first plagiotropic branch. Leaf width can be utilised as an indicator to identify different robusta coffee varieties or genotypes. The phenotypic character of the width of the first leaf on the first plagiotrope branch is crucial because this branch is the first point where the crop shows an early response to its environment, which may include factors such as light, water, and nutrients. Leaf width has been measured directly in the field using a standardised measuring instrument on the widest part of the first leaf on the lowest plagiotrope branch. The results have demonstrated significant diversity, with a range of leaf widths varying from 6.0 cm to 15.0 cm with an average of 9.21 cm. This variation has indicated the existence of genetic diversity based on phenotypic characters among members of the robusta coffee population at Gunung Betung, Bogorejo, Pesawaran.
Winarno WinarnoPriyambodo PriyambodoElly Lestari RustiatiSepti Wahyu LestariShifa SandraNatasya ThesalonikaMinanti Mayda AshariYuliana AndriyaniAnnisa Lidya MaharaniAril AfandiMuhammad FebriansyahDian Neli PratiwiNindy PermatasariSuhada Suhada
